Bridging The Tamar – Tamar Bridge Visitor and Learning Centre
FREE entry for the public 7 days a week from 10am-4pm.
In 2019 the Tamar Crossings opened its Visitor and Learning Centre. Visitors can enjoy a range of guided tours and events, and schools and groups can book educational workshops and specialist tours.
Established to celebrate the engineering legacy of the Tamar Estuary’s historic bridges, the Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning centre is free to the public and is supported by volunteer Bridge Ambassadors from the local community.
Visitors can find out about the heritage of both the 20th century Tamar Bridge and Brunel’s iconic 19th century Royal Albert Bridge. Visitors also have the opportunity to find out more about how operators manage and monitor the road bridge, the Saltash Tunnel, and the tolling system in order to keep traffic moving smoothy and provide safe, reliable and efficient crossings of the river.
A grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) made the Centre possible, with the remainder being funded by the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee.
Testimonials:
“To have these two iconic structures on our doorstep, I was amazed at what I didn’t know! A brilliant visit, and so close to home. Thank you so much.” – A local visitor
