Resurfacing update 7 July
Work to resurface the Tamar Bridge is continuing as planned.
While progress over the weekend and early this week has been slightly hampered by the persistent and sometime prolonged showery weather, work on completing the resurfacing of the north and south cantilevers remains on schedule to be completed by the end of July.
Our contractor VolkerLaser has made good progress with waterproofing the south cantilever in readiness for the new surfacing material to be laid later this week. However, there is still a small amount of waterproofing to complete.
On the north cantilever deck preparation work is now mostly complete.
The specialist surfacing contractor, Aeschlimann, arrived on site over the weekend as planned and are currently setting up their specialist plant and equipment.
Aeschlimann have also begun the first phase of their site works and are in the process of setting up the rails that the surfacing machine runs on. Setting up the rails accurately is a vital part of the process as this determines the thickness of the new surfacing material and the quality of the running surface.
We currently expect the first of the new surfacing material to be laid towards the end of the week.
