Resurfacing update 11 August
In our last update we reported that rain was forecast for much of the weekend and that it could affect our waterproofing works.
The weather forecasts were pretty accurate with persistent heavy showers through most of Saturday and Sunday which also continued until Monday lunchtime. This meant we were unable to start blasting the steel deck followed by applying the paint primer to the steel deck, the first stage of the waterproofing system, until Monday afternoon.
However, the weather forecast is looking fair for the next week and VolkerLaser will be working hard to complete the waterproofing system as soon as practical and in order for the new surfacing to be laid towards the end of the month.
We are continuing to work with our traffic management crews to manage traffic build up on the bridge by changing lane directions as required.
While the shuttle bus continues to provide a 24 / 7 free service, in response to feedback from customers and local residents, we are trialling the use of a mini bus and trailer during off peak times to reduce noise and carbon footprint levels.
Today’s photos show the specialist enclosed shot blasting machine preparing the steel deck and crews applying the paint primer to prevent steel corrosion and to help the sprayed waterproofing membrane adhere to the steel bridge deck.
