To help reduce the spread of the coronavirus Cornwall Council, Plymouth City Council and the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee have jointly agreed to temporarily suspend all tolls on the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry, initially for a three-week period in the light of the latest Government restrictions.
This decision is to protect bridge and ferry staff, key workers and those travelling for essential reasons. All other drivers should avoid non-essential travel in line with the latest Government advice.
Suspending tolling will effectively eliminate the need for personal contact between Tamar Crossings staff and our customers and will add to service resilience by allowing reallocation of some cross-trained staff. We will review the position as the situation develops and in the light of any further Government advice
The suspension will come into effect at midnight tonight (24 March) and will affect all drivers.
TamarTag account fees will also be suspended with effect from midnight, and account holders will only be charged pro-rata for the March period. TamarTag users may find that their tags beep in the normal manner but their account will not be charged.
At the bridge, drivers are requested to observe overhead signals and slowly pass through open booth lanes with care as there may occasionally be bridge staff crossing behind the toll booths.
Drivers entering an open lane will receive a green traffic light and the barrier will be locked in the upright position. There will also be a number of signs stating “Please drive slowly through the lanes”.
