During the past week VolkerLaser has continued working to finish the waterproofing system ahead of the start of the surfacing operations later this week. They have also completed a number of repairs to the concrete approach span and transition zone to the steel bridge deck.

VolkerLaser’s specialist surfacing contractor, Aeschlimann , arrived on site earlier today and has begun to prepare their plant and equipment ahead of laying operations which are currently due to begin on Wednesday. They have also started to prepare the surfacing rails in readiness for installing them on the bridge deck for the surfacing equipment to run on.

The project team and Aeschlimann will begin surfacing operations on the Saltash side span and the main span and anticipate that this will take up to two days to complete, subject to good weather conditions.

An update on the next phase of the project will be provided later in the week.
