Unfortunately, despite an intensive investigation into the causes of the electrical fault affecting one of the two chain drives on Lynher II by the maintenance team over the weekend, it has not been possible to resolve the problem . As a result Lynher currently remains out of service. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this causes to ferry users
Both the chain drives require simultaneous operation to effectively pull the ferry along both chains safely while loaded with passengers and vehicles. Operating on the one serviceable chain drive is likely to cause significant wear and risk unprecedented damage. The issue on the unserviceable drive system is complex and having exhausted the likely causes we are now seeking specialist support from a 3rd party provider who are undertaking a review of technical data captured on the equipment’s electronic monitoring system to identify the fault.
Every effort will be made to restore service efficiency at the earliest opportunity, but at this stage we are unable to advise when this may be. Tamar Crossings value our customers continued support and we will provide a further update at the earliest opportunity.
